NAOMI WILLIAMS (she/her) - (Parkdale-Central/ Calgary) Singing and Voice Lessons; Theory; Speech; Performance-Focused I was probably around 3 years old when I discovered I loved to sing. I could write a novel on all the ways I’ve tried, succeeded, and failed at singing from the moment I first started memorizing nursery rhymes, right up to a recent gig belting out Top 40 hits to a ski lodge packed with families in Lake Louise, AB. I’ve accepted that I’m in a committed, life-long relationship with the vocal instrument. Even though I’ve tried to quit it many times after it’s broken my heart, I’ve always found my way back to the next opportunity, the next lesson, and the next audition. On my singing journey, I’ve learned that the world is full of incredible singers, many of whom are afraid to let anyone hear (or work with) their voices. Knowing how many great singers are out there, and how many go unheard, has motivated me to create a safe space for vocalists to learn, perform and thrive – together! Through my involvement with organisations and communities like the National Teachers of Singing, and the SpeakEasy Cooperative, I have had the opportunity to meet and learn from other voice teachers and singers who challenge, inspire, and lift each other up. I feel tapped into ‘what works’, and ‘in the know’ about what’s new. I’ve been so privileged to recently learn closely from incredible teachers like Rachel Brager-Goldenberg, Edrie Means Weekly, and Kari Ragan. I am proud to say that at this point in my career, I know I’ve helped many people learn to find their voices and their courage. I’ve connected families through the joy of singing. I’ve brought sounds out of people they never even imagined they had inside them. I believe that the voices which are the most impactful come from humans that aim to be kinder and more considerate to others. They emanate from musicians open to learning how to listen more and to judge less. The singers I have had the honour to teach are of differing ages, interests, and levels of performance. They know how to enjoy their accomplishments, and celebrate others. We build a relationship of self-respect and mutual admiration, and we work from that place in every lesson. These special people and I have created a positive feedback loop in a small community of humans who just love to sing. Will you join us in feeling the Good Vibrations?
